Brazil and China Meet Through Film

Rio de Janeiro is hosting a film festival that brings Brazil and China together. The fifth China-Brazil Film Exhibition runs from August 3 to August 25, 2026. It is part of the Brazil-China Cultural Year. The program has 14 movies from the two countries. Seven Chinese movies are being shown in Brazil for the first time. The selection also includes Brazilian fiction films, documentaries, and animation. People can watch the movies at different places in Rio. The first events took place at a cinema in Botafogo. Other activities reached Madureira, Rocinha, and Xerém. The organizers offer free screenings, but tickets and places are limited.

The event is not only about entertainment. It also creates a cultural exchange between audiences, students, and movie professionals. Special educational sessions welcome schools and communities. These sessions help more people see movies on a large screen and discover stories from another country. The festival also started a contest for young filmmakers from Rio de Janeiro state. People aged 18 to 29 could make a short movie of one or two minutes about cultural relations between Brazil and China. On August 25, the final day brings activities to the Instituto Zeca Pagodinho in Xerém. By taking the program to several neighborhoods, the exhibition gives different audiences a chance to participate. A movie can show daily life, history, music, work, family, or technology. When people watch stories from another place, they can notice differences and also find familiar emotions. The festival uses cinema as a simple meeting point where Brazilian and Chinese stories can share the same screen.
