Small Businesses Drive Job Creation in Brazil

Small businesses brought encouraging news to Brazil's job market in July 2026. According to a Sebrae analysis based on official Caged data, micro and small companies created 46,542 of the 58,568 formal jobs added in the country that month. That means they were responsible for 79.5% of the total, or almost eight in every ten new jobs. Medium and large companies created 9,782 jobs, or 16.7% of the total.

The numbers show the important role of small businesses in the Brazilian economy. From January to July, Brazil created 972,203 formal jobs. Micro and small companies created 591,658 of them, more than 60% of the total. These are jobs with an official employment relationship, which can give workers access to rights and benefits.

The services sector created the most jobs among small companies in July, with 22,751 new positions. Construction came next with 16,899 jobs, while commerce added 2,489. Together, these three sectors represented more than 90% of the jobs created by small businesses that month.

For many Brazilians, a small company is part of everyday life. It can be a restaurant, a local shop, a construction company, a beauty business, or a professional service. When these companies grow, they can create new opportunities close to where people live.

The result is positive, but it is also useful to understand what the data means. The figures show the balance of formal jobs created during the period, not every person who was hired. Still, July's numbers show that smaller companies made a strong contribution to employment in Brazil. Their performance also highlights how entrepreneurship and local businesses can influence the wider economy.
