Brazil Launches Digital Health Training Call

Brazil opened a new call for digital health projects on August 20, 2026. The call is part of PET Saúde, a program from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. It connects education, public health services, and communities. This new round focuses on digital health, or the use of technology and information to support health care.

Federal Institutes can send project ideas together with state, city, or Federal District health departments. Applications are open from August 20 to September 8. Each proposal can include three to ten learning groups. The groups may bring together teachers, students, and health workers. Selected projects will last 24 months and are expected to start on February 1, 2027.

The call has three main areas. The first is training people to use technology in an ethical and responsible way. The second is creating digital solutions for public health services. The third is helping health systems share and study information. This process is called data interoperability when different systems can exchange and understand data.

The program also asks projects to protect personal information and respond to real needs in Brazil's public health system, known as the SUS. Each selected project must create or join a research and innovation centre at its Federal Institute. Students may later take part through a selection process and receive scholarships.

The confirmed news is that the project call is open. No project has been selected yet. The preliminary result is planned for October 7, and the final result for October 21. It is therefore too early to say that the program has already improved care or reduced unequal access. Those are future goals. The positive step is that education and health institutions now have a formal opportunity to design and test new ideas together.
